TEHRAN - Director General of the Islamic Chamber Research and Information Center (ICRIC) Mohammadreza Karbasi has said Iran can balance its trade exchanges with Malaysia by increasing the export of Halal products to the country.

Speaking in a meeting with representatives of Malaysia’s National Audit Department on Wednesday, Karbasi pointed out that Iran’s exports to Malaysia are very small compared to the imports from this country, the portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) reported.

“The value of Iran's imports from Malaysia last year was about 565 million dollars while the exports stood at only 82 million dollars,” he said.

According to the official, the potential for the export of Iranian products is much higher than these figures, and there is a possibility of balancing the trade between Iran and Malaysia by using halal food export opportunities.

He invited Iranian companies active in the food sector to become members of ICRIC and use its special services for exporting to Islamic countries.

“In order to reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries, it is good for the Malaysian authorities to support the import of goods that can be sold in the Malaysian market, including the goods that are subject to halal certification or other items demanded in this country,” Karbasi added.
